Elected officials vote on budgets that affect employee's wages, benefits, working conditions and pensions.
They vote on issues of particular concern to AFSCME members, like privatization and broader issues of concern to all working
families, such as health care reform, workers' compensation, and overtime issues.
Unions will never match
the hundreds of millions of dollars large corporations pour into every election. But we as working people have superiority
in numbers, and are able to get out into the streets and work for candidates. If we pool our cash and hard work, we can help
elect labor-friendly candidates who will support us at contract time.
That's where PEOPLE comes in. AFSCME's
political action committee allows members to make voluntary contributions into a fund that promotes political programs and
helps elect candidates committed to public services and fair treatment of workers and their families. Dues contributions can
not and should not be used for political purposes. PEOPLE - Public Employees Organized to
Promote Legislative Equality
The PEOPLE program influences public policy and legislation by involving AFSCME members in four related activities.
